About Dave
Dave’s musical background started in a home full of music, with his mother being a prolific in-home pianist. Herself being largely self taught, Dave very much followed in her footsteps. As he approached middle school, he picked up clarinet as part of the school concert band, which is where he learned to read music. As he progressed through high school, Dave learned to play many of the other woodwinds and became a drummer in the high school marching band (a little more impact than playing clarinet!).
As a sophomore in high school at age 14, Dave began his involvement in “garage bands,” first as a roadie for some older high school kids and then as a drummer in his own projects. Dave considers himself fortunate that his parents made an investment in his musical instruments, having purchased a Gretsch five-piece kit for his 14th birthday ( brand he still plays today). When he went off to college, Dave gigged most weekends in rock bands around the state of Ohio, and played as a session musician during weeknights at The Recording Workshop in Massieville, just south of Chillicothe, Ohio. The money earned ended up paying for most of his college education.
